What is a shift ? 

By definition, the word itself has two meanings. It can either refer to the “slight change in position, direction or tendency” or to “a change of one group of people (such as workers) for another in regular alternation”. Either way, a shift yields change. In the context of our lives and wellbeing, both interpretations have their own rightful place. We live in an age where we can get things instantly, and most things are just a “click away”. Mostly, immediate results are preferable to gradual.

The truth is, however, that being a good partner, parent, friend or worker, while taking good care of ourselves and be mentally and physically well, takes hard work. Fulfilling each role is a “shift” on its own we need to constantly work on. All too often, we get overwhelmed and, frankly, a bit lost in juggling all the different “shifts” of life and soon, both our mental and physical state, start to suffer. This is when a shift, meaning change here, in lifestyle, mindset, and a shift in perspective can be a game changer. The heuristic “A-ha moments” can help us see what we haven’t seen before, and sort out what is serving or not serving us so that we can function well in all of our roles.

It is this awareness that informs our decisions and drives our goals and behavior so that we are able to balance all our “shifts”. Naturally, change follows. A shift in perspective opens the doorway for transformation.

The power of coaching

So, what has coaching to do with all of this? Coaching provides a safe environment where these shifts can organically occur. It provides an opportunity to awaken to your own truths and there is something very profound and powerful about that. It is special. It makes you resonate and align with your core – the key to long term success.

Research shows us that self-determined ideas are the ones that stick with in the long run. So, if it is “all on us”, why is it so hard to change? I had the opportunity to experience what coaching can do for you on my own skin. I became a better partner, mom, daughter and friend because of coaching. I have become much more self-efficient, and been able to accomplish personal and professional goals much faster and more effortless. There is a massive difference between ruminating, having thoughts and plans in your head as opposed to having a safe place to verbalize and hear them out loud. Being asked the right questions and being held accountable for your own actions is truly transformational. Clarity emerges around what you want (or don’t want), where you are heading to and what’s even more, how you are going to reach your target.

Often, we do know what we ought to do, but it is really the HOW that we struggle with. Coaching facilitates lasting shifts where you find YOUR own solutions and figure out YOUR how. And all of the sudden, instead of seeing roadblocks you start to see possibilities…

What I expect from you

Imagine you are on “destination hill”, you are looking around and you see all the aspects of your life in the ideal state you want them to be. You feel the joy of accomplishment in every cell of your body. You did it! Now, you look behind you and you see the road that led up to the top where you are standing now. 

That is the road we are going to climb together. The lead is for you to take, however. YOU ARE THE ONE, who gets to decide what pace and direction you want to take. You are your own confidant; you are the one, who knows what is best for you. Trust your innate wisdom, the power really lies in you. Nobody knows more about you than yourself. You are whole and capable.

The functional aspect of  wellbeing

The word functional literally means „working” or „operating”. In the context of health and wellness, it means the optimal functioning of the entire body, both in a physical and mental capacity. Functional Health is about optimizing your ability to do what you need and want to do. Whether it is keeping up your weekly exercise or meal plan, playing with your kids, or simply unloading your groceries, the goal of Functional Health is to improve your capacity to perform your life. However,  it is so much more than that – Functional Wellbeing does not only encompass your optimal physical and mental wellbeing, but it also signals the abilty to enjoy life, not just to „function well” but to THRIVE. It is a holistic, preventative „self-care” and lifestyle model. When combining Coaching and Functional Health and Wellness, growth and transformation occur naturally. You gain clarity, aligned with your values, and you take effective action toward meaningful goals.
